The Australian Association of Massage Therapists Ltd formed in 2004 after the consolidation of five major massage Associations across Australia. The AAMT recognises a ‘scope of practice’ in Australian massage therapy. The intent of the Scope of Practice is not to be a restrictive description of massage therapy, but an inclusive expression of the core characteristics of massage therapy. Remedial Massage Therapists and Massage Therapists are Ordinary Members of the Association, while Students are
Associates and non voting members. The AAMT recognises the Diploma of Remedial Massage from the Health Training Package as a standard for the profession and plays a part in deciding its content.
