Australian Counselling Association was raised in 1999 due to the lack of accountability and standards in the counselling profession. Counselling is a self regulating industry and as such any-one can call themselves a counsellor, even if they hold no qualifications or have any experience. ACA has established high standards that all members must meet. All counsellors who are registered with ACA must meet minimum professional education and supervision standards. Registered counsellors abide by a set code of ethics and are accountable.
