Beauty Therapy - Natural
By Judith White - Aromatherapist and bestselling author
The term ‘Natural Beauty’ will undoubtedly illicit a different visual concept of the term for each individual. Some may see it as a description of a person born with extraordinary skin and bone structure; others may view the term to mean physical beauty devoid of interference of any kind - from the application of make-up to cosmetic surgery. For me, the term ‘Natural Beauty’ simply refers to the choices you make to benefit your skin, body and environment – for surely they are linked. True
Natural Beauty is contained in all living things and now more than ever before we must be responsible for the decisions we make, for they ultimately affect the beauty of Life itself.
From time immemorial, beauty and health have been intrinsically linked. Simply, our exquisite bodies are created from the inside out by miniature building blocks such as atoms and molecules derived from water, sugars, fats and proteins, all of which are in a constant state of change and transformation. Within this Divine system of change and chaos, there is a Supreme operational order that creates systems that function to maintain life. Our human sensory based organism requires constant care and nourishment. We must take an active responsibility for the food we ingest and the lotions and potions that we apply to our skin to provide the highest quality nutrients; those which can be absorbed, utilized and excreted naturally, to enable us to fully experience the health, beauty and vitality of a well nourished body.
Natural beauty is the individual expression of the care and nourishment that you give yourself both outwardly and inwardly. It is a holistic expression of the way you feel, think and act towards yourself. Natural beauty is very personal. Visually, it reflects the health and vitality of your cells’ and your body’s operational systems and ultimately the choices you are making daily with regards to your food, beverages, exercise and beauty care regimes.
Choosing to use organic, natural, skin, body and hair care products will greatly enhance your body’s ability to maintain its Natural Beauty in a healthy way.
If you believe the statistics the average female will absorb and consume 1 kilogram of lipstick and at least 60 kilograms of skincare creams in her lifetime. So when armed with this information what choices can you now make to feed the skin you are in?
No wonder that there is now a significant shift towards organic and plant derived ingredients when information is now readily available to assist consumers to make more informed choices with regard to skin care. A recently produced booklet “Cancer Causing Chemicals In Cosmetic & Daily Use Products” states, “Three categories of commonly used products by women and babies are face creams and lotions, body lotions and baby lotions. We found a total of 20 Cancer causing ingredients in this group of products, six of which are confirmed cancer causing ingredients, 10 are hidden cancer causing agents, and 4 are suspected carcinogens”.1
It only takes a moment to compare the list of ingredients found in a multitude of brands of cosmetic and skin care preparations with those found in the latest organic and natural skin care products to realise that informed choices permit us to become part of the solution rather than compounding the potential problems found in products rich in synthetic chemicals.
The benefits of choosing to enhance your beauty naturally can now be shown to have a profound effect on your very health, let alone the overall improvement to your complexion. Certified organic skin, body, hair, baby and personal care items are all now readily available; so too are Organic Stores, Spa’s and Beauty Treatments that offer exquisite nurturing services to pamper your body, soothe your mind and improve your wellbeing.
Apart from the obvious personal health and beauty benefits to be found when using organic, nutrient rich products on your skin, we must not forget that natural products are just that, natural. They greatly contribute to a cleaner environment overall by being easily broken down by nature’s laws, and enabling primary producers to gain direct benefit from taking care of the land that is within their care.
Nearly all ancient religions speak of the value in referencing all things to the balance between the microcosm and the macrocosm. Put simply: what exists on a large scale can generally be found to have an identical relationship with what is happening at a microscopic level.
The longest running farming system trials conducted by the Rodale Institute in the USA compared the soil found on organic farms with that coming from conventional farms. This research shows that organic soil has better structure, more microbial (life) activity and more organic matter. It also retains more water (moisture) and uses nitrogen (food) more effectively than non organic soil.2
When we remember that the soil is the ‘skin’ of our planet, if we replaced the word soil in the paragraph above with the word skin, it is easy to draw immediate comparisons.
