Iridology
By Toni Miller ND, DHM, Mast Ir
Iridology is the study of health via an examination of the iris, (coloured section of the eye) the sclera (white of the eye) and the structural aspects of the eye including the pupil (the black centre).
The iris is the most complex external structure of the human anatomy. It has a reflex connection to every organ and tissue of the body by way of the nervous system. Through the optic nerves, which are attached to the eyes, visual information is sent to the brain. Conversely the eyes are also a reflection of the potential of internal organs and tissues in your body. It has been said: “the eye is the window of the soul”.
There are no two irises exactly alike. In fact, each iris is as individual as a fingerprint. This fact has led to the development of bio-technics – identification through the eye used by security companies and airports. The colour and pattern of iris fibres divulges underlying inherent weakness, which may or may not be activated according to the way you eat, drink, feel, live and love. The iris is a reflection of the history and health of three generations behind you.
Brief History
Iridology is not new. The first recorded sources of iris analysis reach back as far as ancient Babylon. In the 20th century, doctors and scientists from the United States, Europe and Australia brought iridology into worldwide recognition. In the last twenty years, iridology has been widely researched in areas such as the constitution, the sclera and pigmentations and has been used by many orthodox doctors in Germany, Russia and other countries as a reliable form of diagnosis. This is largely due to its reliability in the detection of function and disease.
How it Works
Iridologists assess the variations in colour and fibre structure to measure constitutional strength of our physical body, as well as mental and psychological aspects of the personality, which can be influenced by conscious and subliminal
emotional patterns. Iridology is a diagnostic tool used to determine possible health problems at their earliest stages in order to prevent illness and maintain optimum wellness. The iris reflects the physical, emotional and mental aspects of each individual. An iridologist will look at both eyes, and make a judgement on the average colour in order to make a comparison of the shading that may occur throughout the iris. Basically, lighter areas indicate increased function – while darker areas represent lowered function modified by the degree of darkness.
Conditions Commonly Treated
Iridology is not a treatment. However a competent iridologist can identify areas that may be contributing to underlying health problems with a high degree of accuracy. An iris assessment can evaluate conditions such as mucous membrane sensitivity, (including upper respiratory reactivity and sinus response), hormonal dysfunction, (including reproductive problems and diabetic risk), digestive efficiency (stomach acidity and bowel function) and cardiovascular risk. Many of these conditions are expensive and invasive when investigated by mainstream methods.
The Benefits
Today, people are in need of preventative health care and less complex methods of analysing their condition. Iridology provides a non-invasive, painless and economical means of looking into the body, which may be utilised in conjunction with any other system of analysis or diagnosis available. It is one of the most enlightening methods of analysis used today and is surprisingly accurate. An iridology analysis can be a journey of self-discovery as it uncovers potential physical health conditions and the underlying emotional triggers that could turn that potential into a pathological crisis.
What to Expect During a Treatment
Years ago, an iridologist would examine your eyes using a light with a magnifying glass, but over the last five to ten years, we have seen computers enter iridology analysis. The practitioner will take photos of your eyes using a customised camera in order to show you your own eyes on a computer screen. An iridology chart can be overlaid onto the image. This greatly enhances the accuracy of the analysis. The iridologist will ask you questions based on the findings and explain what the individual markings and colours mean to you. You will be fascinated at how much your eyes reveal about you and the family behind you. Everyone should have his or her eyes analysed at least once and as soon as possible. Discovering your constitutional pattern enables you to nurture any weakness found in your system, resolve any underlying emotional issues you might be holding onto and empower you to be the best you can be.
